It is being reported that Africans are being sold as slaves in Libya. This is evil and heart wrenching. However, it is important to address the root cause of this problem. An article titled ” Running away from challenges is not the option ” written by a Nigerian activist Osaze Edigin echos my thoughts on african migrants ordeal in Libya. It is a must read. See the full article below .
RUNNING FROM CHALLENGES IS NOT THE OPTION:
….You must fight your enemies within
If we all stay back home and hold our government accountable, there won’t be need going to Libya to be sold off as slaves. The amount of energies deployed on the journey to Libya and the heat of the sun in the desert if put in action in Nigeria is sufficient to own a filling station or a manufacturing company, it even more than sufficient to make the worse government become responsible if channeled at it.
The truth of the matter is that, a lot of our youths are the ones singing praises of the political leaders that have plunged us into the mess we are today. Another vast majority are attacking those who speak out against any ills in our polity on social media which has contributed to the irresponsiveness of politicians. You will call for a protest to put the government on the right path, you won’t see our youths. Which is safer? Protest against your government to get a better deal or be sold off as slave in a strange land?
Many of the youths being sold off as slaves in Libya may have supported wrong and anti people government policies or shown no interest in what the government does with our commonwealth.
I empathise with them and their families but most importantly to take home is, we should stop running from challenges and stay back to fight for our future, even the countries we run to today, their citizens fought for what they enjoy today.
Nigeria can be better than the countries we run to if we will stop patronizing politicians and political parties based on our ephemeral gains, avoid tribal and religious sentiments, eschew corruption, exhibit unflinching love for the country, kill nepotisim and celebrate proficiency.
NIGERIA YOUTHS ARISE!

A bitter truth. Nigeria is a failed society, that works for those who failed it.. And this problem doesn’t seem like it’ll stop anytime soon..
It’s now an all man for himself struggle..
We’re only in God’s hands.
I for one am just glad that the recent report’s in the media has sparked yet another conversation on modern day slavery. .this is totally & completely heart wrenching & we can’t possibly sit back. .fold our arm’s & do nothing. .Let’s Pray For this wicked world we Live in though!!!!
This is very very saddening
This is soo disheartening!……ive been praying for them ever since I got this info….God please take control!…thank God the Nigerian authorities have risen up to the challenge…
The heart of men is desperately wicked
It is well
It has to stop
God’s help is all they need.
It makes my heart ache anytime I come across this information. It just shows how desperately wicked the heart of man is…God come to their aid
Only dis comfort and difficulty can make a man want to leave the place he grew up in.
Accusing fingers should be pointed towards our leaders, they’ve failed US!
